Beachgoers Smash Window To Free Dog Trapped In Car But The Owner Complains About The Window

If you have a dog in your life, you realize that they rely on us to care for them when they are unable to care for themselves. Most dog owners are quite responsible and they will make sure that their dog is happy, comfortable and well fed. There are also those who are either oblivious to the dangers that may exist or they simply don’t care. This is especially seen when people leave dogs unattended in a hot vehicle.

This incident took place at an England beach. Temperatures were in the 90s and people walking by noticed a French bulldog had been locked inside of a car. Hollie Evans began recording as the beachgoers were trying to get water to the animal through a crack in the window. It was then that they decided to take things to the next level. A hammer was used to smashed the window so the dog could be removed safely. The park ranger’s office held the dog until the owner was found.

As it turns out, the owner was not happy about what happened. Rather than being thankful that they saved his dog, he was concerned about the broken car window. That is when a heated exchange began.

Hollie told reporters: “The temperature was increasing, and the dog was showing signs of distress, and he started being sick, and his breathing became erratic. We needed to get the dog out for his welfare. The group decided for the dog’s safety to break the window and get him out. We broke the window, got the dog out and took him to shade. He was still being sick.”

This action would be legally justified in the United States but in the UK, it could land you in court. If the dog owners were to consent to having their window broken, all would be fine. Since he complained about his destroyed property, however, they may find themselves in hot water.

This was reported by the RSPCA: “In an emergency, we may not be able to attend quickly enough and with no powers of entry, we’d need police assistance at such an incident. Don’t be afraid to dial 999, the police will inform us if animal welfare assistance is required. If the situation becomes critical for the dog and the police are too far away or unable to attend, many people’s instinct will be to break into the car to free the dog.”

“If you decide to do this, please be aware that without proper justification, this could be classed as criminal damage and, potentially, you may need to defend your actions in court.”

Hollie justified the reasoning that led to the decision: “We waited for just over four hours in total for the owners to return. They weren’t remotely interested in the dog’s welfare and were more concerned about the broken window of the car. No thanks was given, just abuse and threatening behaviour.”

According to the Waverley Borough Council: “With the help of concerned members of the public, the dog was retrieved, given water and kept in the shade of the Rangers’ office.”

The Ranger was advised by the police to return the dog to its owners. The owners were then given a lecture on leaving their pets in a closed automobile.

Most people would agree that those owners were not capable of caring for a dog. If it weren’t for the intervention of Hollie and the others, the dog would have likely died in the automobile. Who would have been blamed for the dog’s death? That remains to be seen.

For now, we are thankful that she was there to save the day for this pooch. They did what was right and we hope that there isn’t any legal backlash for their actions.
