Service Dog Goes Into Labor And Gives Birth At A Crowded Airport

There was a lot of excitement taking place at Tampa International Airport recently. It wasn’t excitement in a way that most of us would want to avoid, however, in fact, many people would be on hand and love seeing what was happening. It was unexpected, but the passengers who witnessed the event were quite delighted to see it.

It happened when people were waiting for a plane and a dog was in the area giving birth to eight puppies. The dog is a Labrador service dog named Eleanor Rigby. She became a mother to eight cute little pups while she was waiting for a flight.

Eleanor Rigby was at the Tampa International Airport and she was traveling with her owner, Diane Van Atter. While traveling, she decided it was time to go into labor. The father of the pups, Golden Nugget was also present for the delivery.

The people who were on hand for the delivery were very excited about seeing what was taking place at gate F80. Even though some people were probably a little bit excited about their flight, these puppies proved to be a great distraction.

The amazing thing was that the pups kept being born for some three hours!

“I was here since puppy five. It’s on Instagram; We’re getting a lot of likes.” One passenger stated to a local news station.

Many people who were there shared what they saw on Instagram.

Kristin Hannah Moulton wrote the following on Instagram: “A Service Dog named Ellie, short for Eleanor Rigby caused quite a stir at Tampa airport yesterday. The two-year-old yellow lab went into labor before boarding a plane to Philadelphia. Tampa Fire Rescue delivered seven puppies; 6 girls and one boy. Congratulation to the new mom and safe travels.”

Eleanor, whom they call Ellie is a proud mother to many adorable puppies. She had seven boys and one girl.

The paramedics at the Tampa fire and rescue arrived to ensure that everything was as smooth as possible for the three-hour delivery. They did a great job of keeping Ellie safe and making sure that the puppies were safe as well.

The paramedics managed to be rewarded for their hard work.

“They have our names of course! And of course, the last one’s Natalie, it’s a girl!” paramedic Natalie Brown happily revealed to the local news station.

“And Number two is Larry” chimed in her colleague, Larry Glanton, who was there for the big event.

Unfortunately, the family did miss their flight but I don’t think that anyone was overly concerned. They were heading home to Pennsylvania when Ellie went into labor. The owner was just looking forward to getting home and to get accustomed to the dog family.

Traveling by air was no longer an option now that the puppies were born. They had to drive to keep the new pups safe. Most airlines will not have newborn babies younger than two days old on a flight. Newborn dogs may even have a longer wait. Then again, the drive home to Pennsylvania was probably quite nice with 10 puppies to keep you company.
