When we look at the world around us, we recognize that there are a number of growing problems. One of those issues that we may come face-to-face with on a daily basis is homelessness. It is heartbreaking to see people living on the streets with nowhere to sleep, no warm clothing and stomachs that are often hungry for something to eat. When we see this type of situation, we want to do something about it and in some cases, we might find ourselves actually stepping forward.
Homeless shelters do exist but they are not always the best option for individuals who live on the streets. They tend to be overcrowded and sometimes, they may not be the safest place to sleep. We also tend to see kindhearted individuals who from time to time help those who are down on their luck. This can also be inspiring, as you are about to see.
This event took place when a homeless man came into a popular restaurant in Memphis. That Memphis restaurant, Huey’s, is a hangout for many locals. This homeless man was hoping to receive some kindness from those who were working in the establishment. He was very hungry but he only had a few dollars.
A woman named Dawn Wilt was eating at Huey’s when she saw the homeless man come in. He walked up to the bar and ended up coming face-to-face with an employee named Beck. Rather than turning the man away, he said:
“What can I get you, man?”
The homeless man was upfront with the fact that he only had two dollars. He let the employee know that he was very hungry and asked what he could buy with that money.
Beck ended up offering him a burger with a side of either onion rings or fries. If you eat out, you realize that the price was quite a bargain.
The homeless man instantly replied: “God bless you.”
After asking the homeless man what he wanted to drink, he got him a water. It was over 100° outside so the homeless man was probably quite thirsty.
Dawn recorded what happened on her Facebook page:
“They gave the food to him to go and I swear when it came out it was way more than he ordered or paid for … I say cheers to Beck for having a HEART.”
Dawn was touched by the friendliness of that bartender. It reminded her of the bartender in the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. In the movie, an angel gets his wings when you hear a bell. She said:
“Beck, you get the wings today. Made my heart smile.”
We agree that Beck is an upstanding individual for helping this homeless man by giving him a hot meal.
