Student Walks 20 Miles For First Day On The Job. Boss Rewards Him With New Car

Did you ever have a difficult time getting to work in the morning? Many of us have to fight traffic on the day by day basis and we might even find that we are leaving a little early to get there on time. For a college student in Alabama named Walter Carr, however, the commute to work was a little bit more difficult than any of us have ever experienced. In fact, when we hear what he did and how he was rewarded for it, it will inspire us to greater things.

Carr had recently been hired with the moving company, Bellhops. He was getting ready for his first day on the job but unfortunately, his car broke down. Rather than calling in on this first day of work at making a bad impression, he walked 20 miles to work. It took him all night long and he had to leave at midnight to get there on time.

Along the way, police stopped him to find out why he was on the highway the middle of the night. They were impressed with why he was doing it so they drove him in town and bought him a good breakfast.

In the meantime, Jenny Larney was preparing to get on the road with her family for moving day. That is when a knock came on the door. It was Carr and the police officer who had arrived a little early. The officer explained why he was there so early and it made such an impression on Larmey that he had him inside to rest. Rather than resting, Carr asked if he could get started on the job.

When she posted this story on social media, it went viral. She said, “He is humble and kind and cheerful and he had big dreams! He is hardworking and tough.”

The story eventually got to the CEO of Bellhops moving company. His name is Luke Markle and he was so impressed by Carr’s initiative, he set up a meeting and gave him a gift. It was the keys to his own SUV!

Markel said he was blown away by what he did. He said that everything exhibited by Carr is exactly what they stood for, heart and grit. When he was given the keys to the new car, he simply said “seriously?”

He later admitted that this company was the first that would hire him in a long time.

“I wanted to show them I got the dedication, I said I’m going to get to this job one way or another.”

He thanked his parents for shaping him into the man that he was this day. His family had been through difficult times, including losing their home during Hurricane Katrina.

“I want people to know this — no matter what the challenge is, you can break through the challenge,” Carr said. “Nothing is impossible unless you make it impossible.”

“You can do anything you set your mind to,” he said, choking back tears. “I’ve got God by my side.”
