Freddie Mercury Side By Side With Rami Malek Is So Accurate It’s Scary

Many of us are excited to see the new film, Bohemian Rhapsody. You don’t even have to be a huge fan of Queen to recognize the fact that this is going to be an iconic movie from the very start. In the movie, Rami Malek portrays the role of the lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury. Not only does he play the part, but he also gets it so good that it is almost frightening to watch.

Ever since the film hit the silver screen, people have been going on and on about Malek and everything that he puts into the role. Perhaps one of the best portrayals that he does is when they put on the Live Aid performance. People everywhere are talking and the Internet is absolutely blowing up with praise for what he did. Malik watched the performance some 1500 times and had the recording on set so he could get it just right.

You can watch the video of Rami Malek playing Mercury at Live Aid alongside the real Mercury right here.

It was more than just the efforts of Malik. The entire cast and crew make sure that everything came together just right. Even movement coach, Polly Bennett had to bring the legend back from the dead, so to speak.

She did a lot of research into Mercury’s history, understanding why he made the movements before instructing Malek to do it.

“Everyone moves [differently] because of what they’ve experienced, what they’ve seen, who their family is, what space they’ve grown up in. This is what I’ve called a ‘movement heritage’.”

The Live Aid performance was a bit difficult.

They needed to re-create his spontaneous style and made it seem as accurate as they possibly could when the scene was all and said and done.

“When he did the whole section, beat by beat, gesture for gesture, breathing at the right time, flipping the microphone at the right time, not skipping a line, picking up a guitar, playing the right chords—’proud’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

It looks like everyone agrees

The film was released on November 2 and it is going to be a wild ride. Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello.
