Mom Is Furious After Her 5 Year Old Daughter’s Name Was Mocked By Airline Employee

There was an old song by Johnny Cash named ‘A Boy Named Sue’. It was a song about a young man who had a most unusual name and he had to carry it through life, including all of the bullying that he received because he had it. As it turned out, his father gave him the name to make him tough and it worked but not everybody with an unusual name has that same experience.

Most people would appreciate having a unique name but at times, parents may go a little bit too far. That is the case with the five-year-old girl in Texas who just so happens to be named Abcde. More than likely, you have never run across anybody with that name before and you may even be wondering how to pronounce it. Her mother, Traci Redford, says that it has three syllables and is pronounced ‘Ab-city’. Fair enough.

At this point to the story, we have established the fact that Abcde is a real name and actually exist as well is being an unusual name. As you can imagine, there are going to be times when people with unusual names experience some difficulties, especially as they get older. Abcde is only five years old but she had to endure a little taunting at the John Wayne Airport by a Southwest employee.

The mother gave an interview with a local news station and she said that the bullying took place right before she and her daughter got on the flight.

“The gate agent started laughing, pointing at me and my daughter, talking to other employees,” Redford said. “So I turned around and said, ‘Hey, if I can hear you, my daughter can hear you, so I’d appreciate if you’d just stop.”

Unfortunately, Abcde also heard the bullying. “She said, ‘Mom, why is she laughing at my name?’ And I said not everyone is nice and not everyone is going to be nice and it’s unfortunate,” Redford reported.

To make matters even worse, the gate attendant decided that it would be best to post a photo of the girl’s boarding pass on Facebook so that the entire world could see it. We think that is going to far!

Southwest issued an apology for the behavior of their employee. It is not yet known if he was removed as an employee for his behavior.
