When you are commuting on the New York subway system, you can expect to see almost anything. In many cases, it is something that you probably wished you hadn’t seen and a lot of things that don’t impact you one way or another. When Blake Ricker was on the subway recently, he saw something that was not only surprising, it took his breath away. Once you see it, you are sure to feel the same way.
Ricker is a registered nurse and he both works and lives in New York City. He was recently on a train heading downtown when he saw this special event. It was an elderly couple that was sitting on a bench and they were close to each other. It appeared that they were sharing some hidden secret or feeling with each other. When Ricker saw this taking place, he knew what he needed to do. He pulled out his phone and snapped a picture.
“They just seemed to be so in awe with each other, and I just caught a glimpse of them and it just struck me, I was like, ‘Gosh, they seem to be so in love,’” Blake later explained.
After he got home, he shared the image on his Instagram page. he was hoping that someone would see the picture and know who they were so he could send them a copy of the image.
“If anyone recognizes this sweet couple, please let me know…I’d love to send them a copy of this picture for them to have. Unfortunately my stop came and I was unable to send them it. When the image was uploaded, it went viral and traveled around the world. It didn’t take long before the Internet was buzzing with the image and someone was able to identify the couple.
It was an artist, Karen Kettering Dimit who recognized the couple. As it turns out, they were the in-laws and she informed them about their internet fame.
Karen said that they have been very much in love for the past 64 years of their marriage. When the image was taken, they were heading for a show at the Lincoln Center.
In a twist of irony, Karen had asked them many times to avoid the subway but when the image surfaced, they were totally busted. Imagine that, in their 80s and still breaking the rules.
We love seeing this moment in action and it’s nice to know that true love is still out there.
