The weather in certain parts of the United States has been absolutely terrifying recently. One of the areas that has been hit hard is Oklahoma. Over the past few weeks, severe weather in the form of torrential rainfall, tornadoes and thunderstorms is devastating homes and communities. Flash flooding is occurring and many people have lost their lives as a result of these ongoing storms.
Approximately 80% of Oklahoma is made up of farmland and there are thousands of farm animals that are also being affected by the weather. Many of them are now at risk of drowning unless they are moved to a safer area. It seems hopeless but there is a group of cowboys that are now risking everything to save those animals from death. They have a big heart and people are letting them know how much they appreciate the work they are doing.
These Cowboys have come together for approximately a week to save livestock all over the state. They are taking time off work and using their own resources to save the animals.
It is a dangerous mission that they choose to do but they are getting praise and support from the community as well as the world online.
It started out as six individuals but many more have now joined forces to help farmers who are seeing their animals drowning as a result of the weather.
“We have burned some fuel and spent some time. We have all took off work to do this,” they told Oklahoma News 9, “We are beat, to say the least.”
It began on Wednesday when some men needed to move hundreds of cattle out of the floodwaters. They posted a note on Facebook saying that they had the equipment and could help other families.
“It spread like wildfire after that one or two calls,” Casey Thomas told News 9.
Dozens of other Cowboys joined forces with them.
“It was incredible just to see a bunch of guys get together just to help a bunch of strangers that they don’t know,” said Hunter Webster.
“We just refuse to sit back and watch these livestock drown because I mean, all of us own cattle,” said Cory Conley.
