For folks of a certain age, the only thing you have to do is play just a couple of notes from the classic song by the Righteous Brothers titled “Unchained Melody, ” and instantly, one movie scene will pop into their minds. That scene is from the classic 1990 movie “Ghost,” starring Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayzee. It’s hard to imagine this scene having the same emotional impact without Bobby Hatfield’s sultry voice and deeply sincere lyrics. The love he expresses in the song is so deep, at times it almost sounds like he’s about to come to tears. It’s simply impossible to have found a better song for this scene.
But, outside of Ghost, this song isn’t widely recognized, although it’s certainly been covered by countless artists, including a number of contestants on various singing competition reality tv shows. However, no one has been able to duplicate the spirit and soul of the original. That is until recently. In a video made in the sleepy town of Bremen, Germany, we see a number of orchestras teaming up to put on what will become known as a legendary performance. The orchestras all play “Unchained Melody” while bringing the song new life and a brand new feel that fans have never experienced before. The enchanting melody washes over you like a wave of sweet, beautiful sound as all of the orchestras, including various band members, have their moments to shine.

They kick things off with an amazing trumpet solo then the other orchestras begin to seamlessly blend into the song, each offering their own special regalia. Now, most folks think military personal are kind of stiff and robotic. However, the keyboardist in one orchestra tosses that notion out of the window with a soul-stirring solo. And when the tubes kick in, you can feel the deep tones resonating within your very soul!
Witnessing all of these different orchestras joining together as one is truly breathtaking, but the music they create sends you to another world. Watch this beautiful performance in the video below.
