9-Year-Old Boy Is Shot With A Nerf Gun And Loses An Eye

Six years ago, a nine-year-old boy was hit in the eye with a toy arrow. He has now had the eye removed after being shot with Nerf gun pellet by a friend. The eye was previously injured but the further injury that occurred as a result of the Nerf gun caused him to lose it. The first accident took place when Taylor-Jay Ravicini of Swansea in Wales was just 3 years old.

After the original accident occurred, the doctors were able to save the eye. Unfortunately, the young boy received a secondary injury in August. His mother is now fundraising to buy a prosthetic eye, which can be quite expensive. She said: “I was there with my three children and everything just happened in a flash. What are the chances of an accident happening twice in the same eye?”

She continued: “I was downstairs and I heard a devastating scream and my heart sunk, I couldn’t even go to see him, I sent my partner as I knew something had happened. Taylor’s eye was full of blood and it was causing a build-up of pressure. Doctors told us that he risked losing sight in both eyes if we didn’t remove the damaged one.”

The concern is that she raise enough money to purchase a prosthetic eye that is convincing. Some students have already started to bully Taylor because of the accident.

I really don’t want people thinking I am a bad mother,” she said. “I am constantly worrying for him and what will happen next, it has just been one big emotional roller coaster. I hope people understand how much he needs this prosthetic eye.”
