You never quite know what your day is going to hold when you are a police officer. That is especially true when you happen to be an officer in Platteville, Wisconsin and the weather is bone-chilling cold. During a Sunday night shift recently in which there was a full moon, an officer crossed paths with a tiny kitten and he was desperate for help.
It happened when officer Matt Froiseth was near Highway 151 doing his patrol for the Platteville Police Department. He heard a cry that sounded as if it was a kitten but he was unsure how there could be such a tiny animal around with so much snow on the ground. Upon further investigation, he came upon a ditch that had 3 feet of snow in it.
Even though he could not see the kitten, he knew that he was getting closer because the cries for help became more desperate and were getting louder. He went down into the ditch and found a little kitten stuck in the snow and the rocks.
The first thing that was noticeable on the tiny black kitten were the big eyes that just seemed to be able to find their way through the darkness. The officer took action, worked his way through the snow and removed the rocks in the area. He then got the kitten safely in his arms and tried to work his way back to the squad car.
The kitten was freezing cold but he also seemed to be quite grateful that he was saving her. When he stopped meowing, he climbed in for a cuddle and from that point forward, he would not leave the officer’s side.
Froiseth was going to find a good home for the kitten after bringing him back to the police station and then having him checked out by a veterinarian. The kitten was so attached to him, however, he decided to wait for the visit to the vet until the kitten was finished with his nap.
After the veterinarian gave the kitten a clean bill of health, it was time to find him a home. It seemed like the kitten already had his mind made up, he was with his favorite person and he wasn’t about to go anywhere. He climbed up on the officer’s shoulder and would not leave.
“After some serious thought, Officer Froiseth couldn’t say ‘no’ and has added to his family. This little cutie has found his forever home. As we all hoped, it was love at first sight,” Platteville Police Department said in an update.
The police officer named to the kitten Donut and gave him a forever home in his house. It took a few days of adjustment but eventually, he said the following: “As with any new child, there have been ups and downs but Donut is becoming more comfortable with his new family.”
Officer Froiset now has a feline partner and he follows him everywhere. Donut is very happy to have his new, forever human.
Froiseth may have saved him from the freezing cold that night but he gained a cuddle partner in the process.
