Millions know John Stewart of fans for his tremendous comedic talents, which he put on full display during his two-decade run on Comedy Central’s hit show “The Daily Show.” But, in recent years he’s also become well-known as a passionate and sincere advocate for worthy causes. For example, over the years, he has led the charge in Washington D.C. for many years on behalf of 9/11 first responders even testifying before Congress to pressure lawmakers to fund a relief bill. Also, Stewart and his wife, Tracey, are both animal lovers. In fact, his wife even wrote a book about animals called “Do Onto Animals.”
Interestingly, the couple’s first pets were two adorable rescue pigs. And since that time, they just could not help themselves. They just kept adding more and more animals to their family. Soon they brought in one birth, two fish, two guinea pigs, three rabbits, and four rescue dogs. The Stewarts love their animals like they were their own children. As a matter of fact, the couple loves them so much that they decided to make a pretty significant lifestyle change. The Stewarts turned their 12-acre farm home into a Farm Sanctuary for abused animals. Farm Sanctuary is actually the name of an advocacy group that finds and cares for abused animals. The organization already had three safe havens in the U.S. before the Stewarts volunteered to allow them to use their property as a fourth.
“We bought a farm in New Jersey with the intention of starting a farm sanctuary of our own with an educational center, but what I’m announcing tonight is that our farm is actually going to be the New Jersey branch of Farm Sanctuary,” Tracey Stewart said. “We’re going to build new advocates, new curious learners, and new leaders for this very important movement.”
“It’s one of those things like where after you give birth you forget about the pain,” she added. “So right now I’m feeling really good and positive.”ll this took place back in 2015, and it really helped Jon stay busy considering that he had also retired from the Daily Show the same year. Today, the farm is now called the Hockhockson Farm, and it’s thriving. And while the couple already had an extensive family of animals, they’ve since taken in sheep, cows, chickens, turkeys, goats; you name it they’ve probably got one or two running around. The Farm is full of formerly abused animals in need of healing.”
“As animal lovers, we can always do and be more for those who depend on us. When we make changes in our lives—whether big or small—that move us toward seeking compassion for others, we are moving in the right direction,” Tracey says.
