All you have to do is ask just about anyone with kids, and they’ll tell you how much of a headache it can be taking their kids on a car trip. This is probably one of the main reasons why SUVs and minivans sell are so popular with folks who have kids. Vehicles like these provide more room and seats than your standard truck or sedan, allowing parents to fit their kiddos, their friends, and all their stuff more comfortably. Another plus is that parents may hear less space-related whining from their kids. You know the ones like “Mom! Her shirt’s touching my arm!” or “Move Over!” That said, bigger vehicles don’t solve all our problems; you can still expect to hear complaints about preferred seat assignments and the ever-present question of “are we there yet?”
But, it turns out that for some folks, even a minivan or SUV might not get the job done. People who need to move around sports teams or folks with ten or more grandkids may need to think a bit bigger. And like it or not, those good old days of when it was perfectly legal to pile children up in the back of a pickup truck are not coming back anytime soon. Kid’s these days have no idea what they’re missing out on, that was the best! Remember how that was a pretty common thing, especially during the summer months. Today, people have to find safer, more “legal” ways of hauling their rugrat from A to B. But for one Grandpa, he came up with a brilliant idea, and it all began while he was enjoying a wonderful dinner with his wife, Amy Hayes on his 59th birthday. She asked him if he had a goal that he wanted to accomplish within that year.

“Just for fun conversation I said, ‘Well, you’re officially going to be old next year, anything you need to check off your bucket list? Anything you need to do in your last year before 60?'” she recalled in a recent Facebook post.
Of course, she never realized that her husband would mull her innocent question over for some time thereafter until after a couple of weeks, he finally came to her and gave an unexpected answer.
“I want a bus.”
Puzzled, she asked him why, and he replied:
“I want a bus so I can go around every morning, pick up all the grandkids, and drive them to school before I go to work. Just a small bus. We’d sing songs, talk, and it would be something unforgettable they did with their grandfather. If money were no object, I’d want a bus.”

Now people, if something like that doesn’t just make your heart melt, nothing on earth will.
And so, Amy helped her husband stay focused on meeting his goal, and after around a month of looking around, he was finally able to welcome the “Grandpa Express” onto their driveway.
On top of that, he made the bus even more fun by decorating the inside with lots of magnetic numbers and letters for his grandkids to play with while he drove them to school or wherever else they wanted to take trips to.
Also, to give all the parents more peace of mind, he had seat belts installed on the bus to protect his precious treasures better.

Hayes says that the bus turned out to be better than another Christmas present money could buy.
“It’s primarily about getting to spend a few minutes with them every single morning,” Hayes said.
And according to CNN, Hayes looks forward to finally getting his bus on the road. He learned that he’d been approved for his first official school pick up the day the children return back to school from their Christmas break!
