We are living in times that are unprecedented, to say the least. It doesn’t matter where we look, it seems as if people are getting more and more concerned over the coronavirus and what it is doing to our society. It isn’t just a matter of one or two people feeling the strain, it is hitting people all across society and that includes those who are celebrities. As an example, Conan seems to have been hit by the coronavirus crunch and he has made the decision to furlough some of his nonessential staffers. Of course, we all know that this is something he does in order to get a laugh, but he discovers something interesting in the process.
As Conan is going from one of his staffers to another, he is asking them if they consider themselves to be essential and also asks what they do in order to make his life easier. Most people will say something about helping with email or other technical issues and he automatically considers this to be an essential activity. He also asked if there is anybody at the office that would be considered nonessential and that is where something interesting takes place. It seems as if all of them tend to think of one person that is on his staff as nonessential. Even though it started out as a joke, I’m sure that he has to wonder about that one person that keeps getting singled out.
I’m sure that all of us are concerned in some way or another about the possibility of losing work as a result of the coronavirus. It doesn’t matter if we are self-employed or an employee of a large company, we want to keep ourselves as essential as possible.
When Conan finally gets around to the one employee, Jordan, that everybody considers to be nonessential he has to have a rather difficult discussion with him. I’m sure that it is all in good fun and it just makes us appreciate his show even more.
