I think that all of us would agree that the world has changed, especially now that we are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. Each and every one of us is doing what we can to chip in and to make things just a little bit better. It isn’t just something that is located in one part of the planet, either, unprecedented times are being felt in all areas of the world, including in the UK. Perhaps that is why it is so interesting that Sir David Attenborough is now going to be teaching kids about the world around us. He is one of the celebrities that is doing something to help by being a virtual teacher during the pandemic.
Lessons are being launched by the BBC in an educational offering that is also unprecedented in history. Over 200 teachers and many different celebrities are going to be giving lessons to children across the UK. It involves a 14 week curriculum and although there is a lot that has gone into it, it only took about four weeks to put the whole thing together. Some of the notable teachers include Sergio Aguero, the Manchester city footballer who will be teaching children in the UK how to count in Spanish. Pop stars Mabel and Liam Payne will be teaching music in secondary schools and Jodie Whittaker, from Dr. Who will be teaching Bitesize Daily lessons.
Bitesize Daily was developed to be taught by teaching professionals. There are also a number of famous faces that will be showing up over the coming weeks. More than 200 different teachers work on the curriculum that takes part in the classes, and this week, the kids are going to be introduced to Mr Burton, Ms Webb, Mr Brown, Ms Armit, Mr Mycock, and Mr McPartlin.
Alice Webb, director of BBC Children’s and Education, had the following to say in a statement: “We’re proud that the BBC can bring together so many people to offer such a wide-ranging package of support to help children and parents right across the UK at such a challenging time. We said the BBC would be there for people through this crisis, and we meant it. It’s vital that every child is able to continue learning — and the lessons we’re putting on will make sure they have fun at the same time.” We wish them success in their endeavors.
