From the time I was a young child, my mother always used to say that “time marches on”. I think that most of us would agree with her sentiments and the fact that the clock keeps ticking away and there is no stopping it. We may have something special in our lives and when we look back on it, we suddenly realized that decades have passed. Perhaps that is how we feel about some of the celebrities that have been a part of our lives since we were young. Dick van Dyck is one of those individuals, and he is perhaps one of the most impressive celebrities that has come our way in recent years.
Dick van Dyck has been around for quite some time. He had his own television show, starred in some of the greatest movies of all time (think Mary Poppins) and even was in politics for a little while. In fact, it was in politics when he started to come to the forefront again and videos began to surface of him. He had a message for everyone, adding in a little bit of his humor in the process. Even though he turned 94 last December, he wants everybody to know that he is still all there. In fact, he tells us that “I have all my marbles” and we are more than happy to hear it.
The years have been good to Dick van Dyck, although it’s hard to imagine the fact that he was a young man when he was starring in some of those legendary shows. It’s nice to know that he still has a lot of what he used to have, both physically and mentally, and perhaps he has truly discovered the fountain of youth. Even though he is 94 years old, his age has not limited him and he remains active.
Dick van Dyck has entered into the political scene, and he wants people to know that he is doing fine. He even jokes about it in a taped video, saying that he had “all my marbles”. He may no longer be singing, acting, and dancing but he still does a little bit of filming.
Of course, Dick then Dyke has seen his ups and downs over the years. He has had some problems with his health and even some problems with safety. As a smoker for the majority of his adult life, it wasn’t until 2013 that he finally started chewing Nicorette gum. He even admitted: “I’ve been on this gum for 10 years and it’s just as addictive but at least it’s not hurting my lungs.”
He did have a neurological problem, which resulted in a pounding sensation in his head. They weren’t able to diagnose it successfully but he did have to cancel some of his appearances. It caused him to have some difficulty sleeping and, for a while, we were concerned about his health. It seems as if he is going strong now, and we can see that his life is one that is celebrated from everything that he did. That includes perhaps one of the most classic moments from Mary Poppins that you see in the following video:
