There may be many difficulties that we face in life but one of the problems that is going to be most difficult for many families is dementia. It is a progressive disease that affects far too many people and it leads to the eventual breakdown of memories and makes it harder and harder for an individual to live and care for themselves. Unfortunately, this isn’t just something that affects the person who is dealing with it but it affects the entire family. Nobody is more familiar with this than Anne, a 70-year-old wife to 72-year-old Bill Duncan.
It was only a few years after they got married for the first time that things seemed to be taking a downward turn. He began to show signs of dementia and eventually, it grew worse until it was to the point where he couldn’t even remember her name. Even though that was the case, however, he continued to call her darling. Even though he couldn’t remember his wife, he did feel as if the two of them were dating and eventually, he asked for her hand in marriage again. “It really and truly was the most beautiful and unexpected event ever,” shared Anne, who added that her husband is still much in love with her down to this day.
Even though he couldn’t remember his wife and wanted her to marry him again, she decided to go through with it. After their wedding, she had what they referred to as ‘the wedding affect’ and those honeymoon vibes lasted for a few weeks. In fact, she says that they lasted about six weeks.
The couple met in 2001 while Bill was an entertainer and magician in Aberdeen. They dated for a few years and then were married, but never expected to have to get married a second time. You can see more about that marriage and learn about this loving couple in the following video:
