We live in a world that is constantly changing. I don’t think anyone would deny the fact that things are different now than they were just a few years ago. It seems as if change is accelerating and it can either be for the good or it can be for the bad. Often, the decision as to whether it is good or bad is left up to those who are ‘in the know’. Those influencers are the individuals who make decisions that are going to have an impact on almost everyone else, even those that are outside their realm of influence. Perhaps this is seen in the case of Ellen Page.
More than likely, you are familiar with Ellen Page because she has played in a number of hit films. This includes Inception and Juno. Recently, she came out as being transgendered and she posted a statement on Twitter to that effect. Rather than being known as Ellen, she is now known as Elliott. It is a decision that she did not take lightly, but one that is having an impact on her and those closest to her as well as many in her realm of influence. It reads: “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.”
“I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey.

After making the announcement, Page, 33, received an outpouring of support. It came from thousands of fans as well as from other performers. He continued:
“The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared.”
“I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence.
“To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering.
“The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.”
Addressing the trans community, Page said he will “do everything I can to change this world for the better”.
Page, who is married to choreographer Emma Portner, added: “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer.
“And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”
