We live in a world that is constantly changing but on top of all of it, there are some things that never change. Perhaps one of the things that has been the same for decades, if not millennia, is the fact that some people are going to do what they can to take care of themselves and their family and other people are going to give up quickly. In many cases, we look to the older generation as those who are willing to put up a struggle but there are also many from the new generation who are willing to do so as well. In this particular case, however, we are looking at an older individual and the example they leave for us.
It all started when Jennifer Weiss looked at her doorbell camera and knew that she was looking at something amazing in return. She does most of her grocery shopping online and loves the convenience of it, but when the groceries were delivered, she saw something she never expected to see. It was an older man that was delivering the groceries and he was having a real struggle getting up the stairs. When she spoke to the local news station, she said: “It made me kind of feel guilty, to have someone else deliver stuff, just cuz’ I didn’t want to go to the store.” I have to admit, I would feel a little guilty as well.
She placed the grocery order from Walmart and an elderly gentleman who was clearly having a difficult time was the one who dropped it off. He took care of the packages and obviously, took pride in his job. This got her wondering who he was and what she could do to help him. After sharing a post on Facebook, one of his relatives contacted her.
The man’s name is Larry and he suffered from a stroke in June. He was just doing some work on the side to make extra money because their swamp cooler had blown off the roof and needed to be fixed. When the community heard about it, they wanted to do something to help and donations started rolling in. Larry appreciated the offer but he would rather them share with a local food bank or others who have a need for it.
