We live in an electronically connected world but not everybody is up to speed on how to handle certain things on the computer. That being said, we are sometimes not given much of an option and we need to either adapt or get left behind.
There are always going to be some interesting things that happen when we don’t understand the technology we are trying to use. For an elderly man in Queensland, however, it was more than an interesting story, it was a total disaster.
It seems as if the 88-year-old man had to send money from his bank account to his ANZ bank in June. The problem is, he saved the account using the wrong name so he ended up sending $71K to a complete stranger.
Within a few hours, the man in his daughter realized the error that they had made but by that point, it was too late to do anything about it. The stranger had run to the bank quickly to pull the money out and now they are refusing to give it back.
Mr. Leyton is having a difficult time getting from day-to-day. He either sleeps in the shed or stays with family and since he accidentally gave all his money away, he can’t pay for running water to be connected to his home.
His biggest fear is that he is going to lose his home if he can’t get the $71,000 back again.
Fortunately, the ANZ bank is working with the police and the stranger has been charged with a crime.
