We have heard many things from our parents since we were young. At times, we may have felt that they were nagging but in reality, they were just looking out for our best interest. They didn’t want us to get involved with strangers. In some cases, it may be a matter of telling us that we should never talk to strangers but they may have given us other practical advice as well. For example, we should never take candy from a stranger or help them look for a lost dog.
Unfortunately, not all children pay attention and there are some very bad people out there who will pray on their innocence. That is what happened when young Jocelyn Rojas was kidnapped from her grandmother’s front yard. She was only five years old and the man had lured her into his vehicle. He promised her ice cream but when she got close, he grabbed her by the neck and shoved her inside.
It wasn’t long before a search party was formed and they began blocking off streets. Dogs were even brought in to help search for the girl and they were methodical about it. As it turns out, it was two young man who were brave enough to help save this girl’s life.
Temar and Chris are the names of the young boys and what they did was jump on their bicycles and go find the girl themselves. Although they were only 15 years old, they were up for the adventure and they ended up saving the girl’s life.
There were approximately half a mile away from her grandmother’s home when they saw a maroon sedan. This was the same vehicle that the kidnapper used and the driver was acting suspiciously.
“Every time we’d go down the street, he’d turn back around, and then…we’ll follow him,” said Temar.
He pulled his bike up to the car and confronted the kidnapper directly. He mustered up the courage and looked directly into his eyes and simply said, “I see you.”
That is when something amazing happened. The man let Jocelyn go.
“He stopped at the end of the hill and let her out, and she ran to me and said that she needed her mom,” commented Temar.
Nobody knows if he gave up because the boys were following him but everybody was thrilled that Jocelyn was safe. One thing is certain, the family and friends of that little girl can’t thank these young men enough.
The kidnapper was caught the following day. We are thankful that these young boys did the right thing and helped get a very bad person off of the streets.
