Cyclist Finds A Wounded Dog On Side Of Road And Gives Him A Doggie-Back Ride

When we go out for a ride on our bicycle, we don’t really expect to experience anything life-changing. That wasn’t the case, however, with this ride. It happened when Jarrett Little was out enjoying his hobby of cycling and by the end of the day, he would’ve saved a life. It wasn’t something that he was expecting to do from the start but it happened in such an amazing way, the Internet is falling in love with what he did.

Jarrett was cycling with some friends outside of Columbus, Georgia. It’s a relatively small town so you wouldn’t expect anything big to happen there. That is when Jarrett saw a stray puppy. He was a five-month-old great Dane mix and he was not doing very well. It appeared as if he had a fractured hind leg and his front paw had a broken toe. He also had road rash all up and down his body. It appeared as if he was hit by a vehicle.

Jarrett realized that the dog couldn’t walk and he knew that he could leave the animal along the side of the road. That is when the cyclist stepped up to the plate, picked the dog up and put him on his shoulders. He then rode piggyback all the way into town.

It was 7 miles until they could get to downtown Columbus but the dog did quite well at clinging to Jarrett’s back.

Interestingly, Jarrett and another rider had already talked about adopting the puppy before they got to town. That is, of course, if nobody else wanted to do so. By the time they got to the emergency vet’s office, they had already stopped to get the dog some food and water. That is where they met Andrea Shaw, a customer who was in town for business.

Jarrett wrote, “the dog had an angel waiting for him at the shop right when we pulled up.” Andrea absolutely fell in love with the dog and named him Columbo.

Andrea loved what she learned about Columbo and was appreciative of the fact that he was quite enamored with her. She adopted the dog on the spot and took him to the veterinarian to have him checked out.

“You can see why I didn’t leave him on the sidewalk in Columbus,” she said. “The dog doesn’t have a mean or grumpy bone in his body, and God knows he has every reason to.”

Columbo was treated for his injuries and then transported to Maine in a Canine Freedom Transportation Van.

Columbo is loving his new life in Maine. He lives on a horse farm and he is cared for quite nicely by her son, Chris.

“My 5-year-old son is madly in love with him,” Andrea said.

Andrea now chronicles his adventures on her Facebook page. The puppy is as happy as any dog could be. It started with a piggyback ride and ended in a forever home.
