Many of us remember Michael J Fox as being a teenager on Family Ties. He then started his career in movies, including Back to the Future and Teen Wolf. We probably still remember many of those movies and even though it has been decades since they were on the silver screen, they are still quite popular. It just seems as if everything he did was turning out golden, and it is still a pleasure to watch those older movies today.
His acting career really took off but unfortunately, it was overshadowed by something quite unexpected. Michael J Fox was only 29 years old and his marriage to Tracy Pollan seemed to be going quite well. They had a new baby and it appeared as if they were at the top of their game. Unfortunately, it is also when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Since that time, he and Tracy have had 3 more children and are now celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. They are also dealing with the disease in the best way that they can.
Although the Canadian-American actor is no longer a star in movies in the same way he was as a younger individual, he still provides the voice for movie roles. He also sometimes plays cameo appearances and participates in documentaries.
One thing that has been constant in his life the entire time is his wife, Tracy. They met when they were much younger and were on the set together of Family Ties.
Interestingly, Tracy played the girlfriend of Michael in the show. They were married at the Vermont Inn in 1988, soon after they met on the set of Family Ties. Their first child was born after 10 months of marriage and two years later, he received the official diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
Michael and Tracy may come from different backgrounds but they share a love of acting and a love for each other. Michael was a military child and dropped out of high school. He was in his 30s when he earned his GED. Tracy, on the other hand, grew up in a Jewish New York family and attended Lee Strasburg Institute. They are both middle children and have a sense of humor.
Tracy said that they support each other constantly and have done so since the start of their marriage. That marriage was based on love and commitment. 30 years in, they still are in love.
“It was us against the world. That’s exactly what we’ve created … Just give each other the benefit of the doubt. He assumes I’m doing the best I can.”
Michael is all too familiar with how life can change on a dime. Even though he has suffered from health issues, he emphasizes that they don’t take life for granted.
“Find the best things about you and the best things about life and celebrate them.”
They are now celebrating 30 years of happy married life and she continues to stand by Michael. They are facing his struggles with Parkinson’s disease and together, they are helping to look for a cure. Through it all, they have had their ups and downs but they love each other and remain a strong team with a wonderful family. They are a Hollywood couple that has survived for the long term, and we wish them a happy anniversary.
