When you are running a race, you tend to be focused on one thing, running. It is something that often consumes a runner and they will have tunnel vision while they are running. As you are about to see, however, that isn’t always the case. For one runner in the Chombueng marathon is western Thailand, Khemjira Klongsanun, her day was about to get interesting.
She was running in a 26-mile marathon but when she was only part-way through, she saw a little puppy trembling to the side of the path. The little Bangkawe (Thai wolf dog) was being avoided and ignored by most of the runners but Khemjira realized she needed to do something.
She slowly went up to the little puppy and kneeled in front of him. At that point, she wasn’t worried about winning the race, she was only interested in the little dog. It was easy to see that the puppy was either abandoned or a stray but one thing was sure, she couldn’t leave him there in the elements to fend for himself.
Rather than just ignoring the puppy and running the rest of the race, she scooped up the puppy and kept him safe in her towel. She didn’t quit running, she held onto the little dog until she finished, some 19 miles later.
When Khemjira crossed the finish line, she was still holding the little puppy. She tried to find the owner later but nobody came forward. That is when she decided to adopt the little puppy and name him Chombueng. She didn’t win the race but she is winning in life. See more in this video:
