Adele Hosts Saturday Night Live and Sings Her Best Songs While Joking About Weight Loss

The incomparable Adele has lost a lot of weight in the last few years and people all over the world have noticed. In fact, Adele has been criticized for losing “too much weight” and even her personal trainer has stepped up to defend her and point out how healthy and happy she is. It’s hard to believe, but there are people out there who think that they have a right to tell a woman how she’s supposed to look. The fact is, no one should be making decisions about a woman and her body except for that woman herself and that’s what Adele has done.

Since her weight loss is discussed so much, she decided to make it front and center when she recently hosted Saturday Night Live in her first American television appearance since she appeared at the 2017 Grammy Awards. When she took to the stage at SNL, she opened right up with the weight loss comments to just get it out of the way. “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me,” the 32-year-old singer said, adding this: “But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions… I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me,” she said. “And this is the half I chose.”

Bravo, Adele. Well done. She also revealed that she was “too scared” to sing and host the show simultaneously, but that didn’t stop her from singing as a part of the show’s sketch that evening. She noted that she would rather “put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six, and see what happens,” while pointing out that all of her hair was actually her real hair. The sketch she participated in was “The Batchelor,” and she played a hopeful single woman who was looking for love. In her intro, she explained that she’s there (on The Batchelor) because she’s had a lot of heartbreak in her life.

“I’m here because I’ve had a lot of heartbreak in my life – first at 19 and then, sort of famously, at 21 and then, even more famously, at 25,” she said, referencing her three huge albums. During the sketch Saturday night, Adele endured several rejections while going through all of the show’s different dating scenarios. After every rejection, Adele burst into song singing her top hits, including “Hello,” “Rolling in the Deep,” and “Set Fire to the Rain.” She concluded her funny performance while walking off the stage as she sang “Someone Like You,” and said, “Catch me next week on Love Island!” Watch the highlights of her performance below.
