There have been a lot of interesting songs written over the years and if you really stop to think about it, there are probably more songs running around in your head than you could ever count. Some of them may come and go quickly from the scene, perhaps even rising to the top before they disappear into history. Others may stick around for a number of weeks and reach the top of the charts. They take their place in history as well but they are remembered for everything that they had to offer. It really doesn’t matter whether you are talking about a one-hit wonder or an epic band that writes a top song, there is something that is behind each and every song, a story.
Sometimes, the story behind the song is rather obvious and it other times, it may be somewhat hidden. If you like the song and you find out what is behind it, however, it may make you appreciate it even more. That includes the song “Wake Me up When September Ends” by Green Day. We may have heard songs many times before but what you may not know is that the lead singer wrote the song because his father passed away and the month of September was one that always made him sad. When they told him to come out of his room after he was devastated over the loss of his father, he spoke those words and then put it down to music.
When he was visiting the Howard Stern show, he admitted that it was something that he hesitated to write for quite some time. When he did finally put it to music, however, it was something that many people appreciated.
We might not always have the story behind the music but one thing that we do have is the music. Learning a little bit about this song may help you to appreciate it more and you may just be a little more thoughtful the next time you hear it.
