When we are younger, we often think about old people as being slow and easy to fool. Once you are actually around an older person, however, you begin to realize that all those years of experience are actually working in their favor. In fact, the experience that grandmothers and grandfathers have is something that we can all learn from. In the case of this grandmother, she had something to teach her young granddaughter and she did it in a very witty way.
Her teenage granddaughter was getting ready to go out on a date. When she was putting her outfit together, she pulled out a see-through blouse and was preparing to put it on. Her grandmother, however, was not buying into the idea and it certainly didn’t have her seal of approval. That is when this clever old lady came up with an idea that made me smile from ear to ear and made the teenager think about her choices.
The teenager came downstairs with the blouse on and she wasn’t wearing a bra.
Her grandmother began to get upset and said she should not go out like that. The teenager replied:
“Loosen up, Grams. These are modern times. You gotta let your rosebuds show!” and she walked out the door.
When the teenager came downstairs the next morning, the grandmother is sitting without a shirt on. This really embarrassed the teenager and she tells her grandmother that friends are coming over so she should cover up.
Her grandmother says, “Loosen up, Sweetie. If you can show off your rosebuds, then I can display my hanging baskets.”
I need to remember this one for my own grandchildren.
