Thief Thought He Was Making Off With Opioids But He Took Laxatives

Nobody ever accused a thief of being smart. In fact, we often see them doing things that are quite the opposite. That became clearly evident when a man from Florida made off with some pills last week and it cost him more than he bargained for. You might even say it was a crappy mistake if you would pardon the poor joke.

Peter Hans Emery was arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The 56-year-old man was caught red-handed stealing pills out of a lockbox. The video clearly shows him grabbing the pill bottle, dumping the pills into his hand and they casually walking away. I’m sure he thought he was the smarter of the two but when you hear the story, you might just judge him to be otherwise.

What Peter thought he was getting was a fistful of hydrocodone, which is highly valuable to sell on the street. What he was actually stealing, however was a batch of laxatives according to a local news source. The pill bottle was labeled ‘hydrocodone acetaminophen’ but it actually was Equate Gentle Laxatives.

After being arrested by the police, he confessed to his crime. He said that he threw the pills away when he found out they were something else but it’s fun to think of an alternate story.

Peter has been convicted of theft in the past. He is also up on probation violation because he had stolen Dilaudid (a painkiller) previously. He has also served 28 months in a state penitentiary for various crimes, including cocaine possession, burglary, forgery, resisting arrest, grand theft, auto theft, and failure to appear in court.

I would say that this man should be locked up.
