When somebody is famous, especially if they find themselves on the movie screen regularly, we get familiar with them. We may never meet them in person but we see them so often and read about them in the news that suddenly, we feel like we know them on a one-to-one basis. That is the case with Matthew McConaughey. He is rather unusual, and most people wouldn’t argue that fact. There are also quite a few things that you probably don’t know about him.

When McConaughey is on the stage, he puts his whole heart into it. The same is also true when he is being interviewed or with anything that he does. He dated Sandra Bullock when they met on the set of A Time to Kill. They seemed to get along quite nicely but he is now married to someone else. He and Bullock are still close friends.

4. He wanted to be an attorney

McConaughey was going to be a lawyer but he ended up playing lawyers on the silver screen instead. It seems that he just decided out of the blue when he was 21 years old that he didn’t want to go to a school for that long. He wanted to do something that would make an impact.

McConaughey is a father of three. He learned a lot about himself during that time. He revealed this in an interview that taking care of his kids is like taking care of himself.

The Daytona 500 in 2005 saw McConaughey saying the words, “Drivers, start your engines.” He considered it to be a great honor.

7. His mother proposed to his father.

He gave an interview that discussed how his parents got engaged. Before his father went back to school one summer, he went home to Louisiana and found his girlfriend at the door. She handed him an invitation to their own wedding and gave him 24 hours to give an answer.

8. He saved animals after Hurricane Katrina

McConaughey grew up in the area so when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, he left his Malibu home and headed for a local animal shelter.

He may give hints about the barbecue rub but it is a well-kept secret.
