You could be in any of the past three generations and remember growing up with Aerosmith songs playing at full blast from the time you were young. Perhaps your generation remembers song such as ‘Dream on’ or you may remember any one of their newer songs. They are an iconic band that continues to be played on the radio, not only because of their fame but because they are just that good.
If Arrowsmith has touched a chord in your life, you will love finding out what the lead singer, Steven Tyler has been up to. As it turns out, he is still going strong and even though he is getting up in years, he still finds a way to give back to others in a very touching way. In fact, he recently announced that he is opening ‘Janie’s house’ which is a home for abused and neglected girls.
The rock star did more than simply create a safe haven and open its doors. He also took $500,000 of his own money and renovated an 82 acre home and the surrounding property. It is located just outside of Memphis on the Youth Villages Bartlett Campus. It’s a beautiful setting for the abused and neglected girls that may have been through a very difficult time to relocate and to find themselves again.
Tyler was on hand for the scarf cutting dedication and the home was officially opened. He then said that the reason he was motivated to open this special house is because of the 1989 hit song, Janie’s Got a Gun. For those of you who have never heard of it before, it talks about a girl who was abused by her father and then takes revenge after suffering for many years.

He said that he was inspired to write the song because he was dealing with his own addictions. As he was going through treatment for codependency, a number of young women who had been abused physically and emotionally were being treated at the same time. He wants to do his part to help women overcome these difficulties and he poured his emotions out into that song in their honor. Now he wants them to have a safe place where they can run to so he partnered with Youth Villages which operates those programs across the country.
The main goal of the home is to bring awareness to the issues of abuse and neglect. It is also to generate the financial support necessary so these girls can receive the services necessary to help them. The home will foster 14 girls at a time, up to 30 annually. The safe space that is created in the home is there to help them heal. There is also Janie’s Fund, which has raised $4 million since it opened. The first center was opened in Atlanta back in 2017 and later this year, a third should open in Las Vegas.
