It doesn’t matter who we are, we all have the ability to sing. That being said, some of us have voices that are suited to be heard by others and the rest of us must limit ourselves to singing when we are in the shower. That is the case with any type of music but when it comes to opera, there is a very limited amount of people who are able to sing that way. It is a very coveted skill but it is not easy to master.
Let’s take things to the next level and imagine singing opera while also doing so as a ventriloquist. Most of us could not even imagine starting to do this but a 15-year-old girl from Oklahoma is showing us how it is done. Her name is Darci Lynne and more than likely, you know her because she won season 12 of America’s got talent a couple of years ago.
We first became familiar with Darci and her rabbit puppet, known as Petunia. when she first tried out for her performance. She did the song Summertime and we have loved her ever since. It was so amazing that she even got the Golden buzzer and advanced to the next round without the other judges even putting in their two cents.
Every performance that she made involved puppets, and she was so popular and did so well that she was even able to win a one million-dollar first place prize at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
The next time she was invited she performed Proud Mary with Oscar the puppet but she didn’t receive enough votes to continue.
That being said, she has an incredible amount of talent and she was invited back as a wildcard for America’s Got Talent: the Champions. Needless to say, she brought her A-game to the competition.
Now we get back to the subject of singing opera while using the puppet. The judges had some skepticism when they heard that she was going to do it. After all, she had not performed an opera song before and it takes a special type of skill to do it.
If the judges had any doubt, it disappeared very quickly. Before long, Darci and her puppet were performing their rendition of “O Mio Bambino Caro” and it was outstanding.
The audience started cheering and clapping along and they continue to do so as the performance stretched forward. After the song was over, the audience was on their feet.
“Wow, wow, wow, Darci!” an obvious blown-away Simon Cowell told Darci. “I actually believe this, for so many reasons, is your best ever performance.”
“It’s hard enough at your age to sing opera, but you’re doing it through a rabbit!” he added.
I agree!
He couldn’t help but say: “I think you’re going to win tonight.”
I have to admit, the performance really was that good. The judges were stunned, the audience loved it and she was very happy when all was said and done.
