There’s no doubt that “Mary Did You Know” is considered one of the greatest modern-day Christmas songs of our time that sure go on to be a classic sung for generations. Initially, the song was written by Mark Lowry in 1984. But, it was first recorded seven years later in 1991 by Christian recording artist Michael English. However, over the years the song has seen numerous covers by many artists, although none have covered it quite like Pentatonix, one of the world’s best a Cappella groups. This world-class quintet manages to deliver some sweet and haunting melodies while performing this powerful Christmas hymn.
Not many people know that it took Lowery over seven years to perfect the lyrics to this enchanting song. He first came up with the idea while writing a Christmas program for Jerry Falwell. He started to wonder what he would ask Mary if she was sitting in front of him. He thought about how she must have felt when one of God’s angels told her that she was to give birth to the child of God. He then began to put together a list of questions which he would eventually turn into the incredible lyrics we all know and love. Decades later, this song still profoundly resonates within the hearts of folks all over the world. And once you’ve experienced this incredible Pentatonix rendition, you will feel it touch your heart all over again.
‘Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God’.‘Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
That sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am’
