Did you ever notice that there were certain songs that seem to continue to come up on our radar over and over again? We may have thought that they were done perfectly by the group that did the song first but as they continue to be covered by other professionals, we recognize that there is much that could be added to them. That is what we often see when it comes to the a cappella group, Pentatonix. Ever since day one the third season of NBC’s The Sing-off in 2011, they have been doing some wonderful things online.
Of course, we could say something nice about any band or singer, regardless of who they are or their amount of talent but there are certainly going to be some that stand head and shoulders above the rest. For example, Simon and Garfunkel will always be a fan favorite and their song, The Sound of Silence, is going to be a perpetual classic. Pentatonix decided to cover the song but they didn’t do it in a way that you would expect. They took their voices and put them together in a way that is going to give you goosebumps from the very first note. It is fantastic!
Singers Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, Scott Hoying, and Matt Sallee, who replaced Avi Kapli when he left in 2017 seem to be able to master any song that they tried. They don’t use instruments but rather, they do everything with their voices only. It’s a great way to perform and they do it better than anyone I have ever heard before.
They are going on a world tour in 2019 and the tickets just went on sale but this song comes out in advance of the tour and it is certain to whet your appetite for what is ahead. They have gained fame worldwide because of the classics they sing but this song is setting the bar and even a higher level.
When you hear Scott singing the beginning of the song, you will think that it couldn’t possibly get better but just wait until you hear the rest of them chime in. They start humming the background vocals and before long, the singing starts and it is completely uplifting.
Matt Sallee may be the newest member to join the band but he is no amateur. He blends his voice with the rest of them like the true professional that he is.
Kirstin adds a lot to the music with her mezzo-soprano tones and she seems to balance out the masculine voices that are singing along with her.
The Sound of Silence is always going to be a classic but this group brings it to a level that we have never heard before. You are sure to be amazed at what they do.
