When we get older, we may end up having a variety of problems with our health and dementia is one of those issues. Stanley is somebody who has been dealing with that for a number of years and he moved into an assisted living facility two years ago.
Stanley lives along with 60 other people at the assisted living facility who have dementia or Alzheimer’s. He was spending the rest of his life in that facility when a most unexpected friend showed up.
A woman by the name of Laurie Morse began to bring her son and daughter to the facility. Her son, Simon, was the order of the two, and Etta, the daughter, was only one at the time.
Although she was a small girl in unusual surroundings, Etta formed a special bond with 95-year-old Stanley. It was during a music class that she continually brought Stanley instruments until it was realized that they had bonded.
The mother isn’t quite sure how or when it started, but she brings out that they do have a connection.
Although Stanley doesn’t enjoy getting up early in the morning, the nursing staff only has to mention Etta in passing, and he will open his eyes and dress for the occasion. Even though he can’t remember names and faces very well, he always seems to remember the days that she is coming around.
Fortunately, the three-year-old girl was very patient with him and isn’t afraid to get a hug and cuddle, even if Stanley is having a bad day.
