9-Year-Old Girl Investigates Strange Movement in Her Backyard and Finds Newborn Baby
1475
In 2016, a 9-year-old girl living in Indiana discovered an abandoned infant left in her family’s backyard.
Elysia Laub originally thought the baby was a little piglet since her family has a pigpen to raise the animals.
The little girl screamed for her mother to come outside.
Her mom, Heidi, was shocked when she saw what her daughter had discovered.
The screaming infant appeared to be less than a day old and still had the umbilical cord and placenta covered in maggots.
Lake County Sheriff John Buncich said he was grateful for Elysia’s discovery. Temperatures that day reached over 90 degrees. But, it’s unknown how long the baby was left outside.
The child suffered from sun exposure but made a full recovery. You can watch a news report about Elysia’s discovery below.
The police department’s initial investigation didn’t reveal where the child was born, or the baby’s birth mother until the sheriff announced that Special Victims Unit Investigators finally tracked her down.
The mom was a local teenager. Investigators believe the child had been outside for several hours, possibly overnight.
