Actor Johnny Depp didn’t waste a moment celebrating his defamation trial victory over his ex-wife Amber Heard. After six weeks of explosive and sometimes bizarre testimony, both parties accused the other of abuse. In Fairfax, Virginia, a jury returned a verdict after less than three full days of deliberation. The jury voted in favor of Depp’s claims, finding the Aquaman actress liable for defamation.
When the verdict was finally announced on Wednesday, June 1, Depp was across the pond in England, where he’s remained to celebrate with his closest friends. While some might think his visit to England was a subtle jab at the UK legal system following his libel trial loss in London in 2021, according to the Depp’s people, the actor had prior “work commitments” in the UK before the US trial took place.
Since the verdict, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has been out across England performing with his good friend and music collaborator Jeff beck and partying with his friends. It’s clear that Johnny’s living it up and is eager to move forward with his life after his reputation, by and large, has been vindicated.
TMZ reports the actor 56-year-old actor rented out the Varanasi — a popular Bringham spot — for an intimate dinner with around 20 0f his closest friends.
Mohammed Hussain, the restaurant’s Operations Director, told TMZ that Johnny’s bill came out to about $50,000 British pounds or $60,000 US dollars!
Depp thanked the jury for giving him his life back in a statement released after his victory.
“Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye,” he began.
“… And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
Johnny’s expensive dinner follows news that Amber Heard cannot pay the $10.35 million that the jury awarded her ex-husband.
However, while speaking with People Magazine about Amber Heard’s payment, Legal analyst Emily D. Baker said:
“Getting the judgment is one thing. Getting the money is a whole separate thing.”
“From a PR standpoint, it would not be ideal to see Johnny Depp trying to aggressively enforce this judgement,” she added.
“We’ll see what they do. I don’t think we’ll see them aggressively pursuing this judgment right away. And I don’t think they necessarily should at this point.”
