You don’t have to be around very long to realize that trends come and go just like the sunrise and sunset. It seems as if something is popular one day and by the time the next day is here, it is old news. Perhaps you have even taken part in some of these trends and thought that they were the best thing, ever. In the end, you end up disappointed because you put a lot of time and effort into something that is here today, gone tomorrow.
Some of these trends seem to hit the Internet and take off like a rocket. Quite honestly, the Internet has seen some of the strangest trends come and go over the years. It is still true, because now one of the strangest trends we have seen in quite some time is up-and-coming. It has to do with curly eyelashes, yes, curly eyelashes. Somebody thought that it was a good idea but now we just all look on in horror as it unfolds in front of us.
Sofie Petersen is the Instagram celebrity who thought it was a good idea to get this started.
She is a makeup artist that is known for her bizarre looks and she posts them on her Instagram page with pride. Amazingly, she has over 27,000 followers.
Her curled eyelashes were posted with the caption, ‘puberty isn’t over’.
If it wasn’t bad enough that she posted curly eyelashes, she had to make a reference to them being Curly in the first place.
I have to admit, they don’t really look like eyelashes to me. They look more like wire mesh that has been crumpled and pasted onto her eyelids.
Ever since she posted this look, the Internet has reacted in numerous ways. The majority of them are negative but some of them are surprisingly positive.
makeupbydylanpiper perhaps said it best for all of us when she said ‘IM UNCOMFORTABLE’.
Another user by the name smoochypants, commented, ‘Thanks, I hate it!’
Others were just saying ‘Ew’ or ‘ooooft’. But at least one person said ‘LOVE’.
You can find a wide variety of interesting makeup looks on her Instagram page that aren’t curly.
I’d be afraid to blink if I had this one
Sofie offered some insight into her makeup art in an interview:
‘I want people to feel something when they see my beauty looks, whether it’s inspired or disgusted. I want to show emotions and tell stories and joke around. I like that my Instagram is a place that can contain different expressions.’
Sofie is obviously aware that she is a little ‘out there’ with her makeup art. Some of these, quite honestly, make me want to itch my eyes when I see them.
She uses everything from toothpicks to crayons and safety pins. She said that her ideas spark from her growing up in a Danish suburb where little variety in makeup was seen.
Here is one impressive look:
I think if I attempted that on my own I would put my eyes out. Some type of glue must be used but I don’t want to have that too close to my peepers.
She is also experimenting with a vegan look.
Sophie talks about her designs as being a form of therapy and says:
‘What I want people to feel after visiting my Instagram, is to be encouraged to just put whatever they want on their face and own it! Do whatever you want, you just have to feel awesome and be confident about it.’
It’s nice that people use social media to get creative but sometimes, we just need to keep things behind-the-scenes.
