Man Dresses Up Like A Rat To Take A Stab At The Subway Mask Requirement

I think that all of us are willing to admit at this point that 2020 has been quite a year. Between the pandemic, natural disasters, and civil unrest, it seems as if we are all ready for 2021 to come around. Perhaps one of the most noteworthy things that has affected us on a personal level is the fact that we are all now wearing masks in public. Admittedly, nobody enjoys wearing them and some people even fight against the system but in the end, they are an important part of helping to control the deadly pandemic. It isn’t just a matter of protecting ourselves, wearing a mask also helps to protect each other.

Although we have gotten used to seeing masks everywhere we go, there are times when somebody takes wearing a mask to the next level. That is the case with Buddy the Rat, a well-dressed rodent that is being seen more and more often on the subways in New York City. Not only does he wear a facemask, he wears it with style because it is a full rat mask that covers his entire head. He also has a long tail and he wears a suit. You can see him in the video below, and it is exactly what you would expect to see on the New York City subway.

If it isn’t enough that there is a man dressed like a rat going onto the subway, it’s hilarious that nobody seems to be bothered by the fact that he is there. Some will glance up briefly to see what is going on but they quickly go back to looking at their phones or whatever it is they are reading. Although he isn’t getting the love he desires on the subway, he is definitely getting some live online.

Jonothon Lyons is the performance artist that brings buddy to life. He has made a career out of physical theater, including being in the Blue Man Group. The rat character was created for a video in Times Square over a decade ago but now, but he will be appearing in a short film this Thanksgiving.

It will be interesting to see where 20/20 goes next.
