Man Fights Back When Bear Tries To Kill His Dog

What would you do to protect your dog? Those of us who have a dog in our family realize that they give us much more than we could ever hope to give them. They provide us with love and friendship in ways that can’t be described and when we need them the most, they are right there by our side. It is rare that we have to show them that level of devotion in return but all of us hope that we would be there when the chips are down. Kaleb Benham from Grass Valley, California had that chance and took it.

When Benham was our playing with Buddy, his 90-pound pit bull, he was put into a very difficult situation. Suddenly, something seemed off and then he learned that his suspicions were correct. After hearing a growl, he looked and saw a bear dragging his furry friend by the head about 100 feet away. The 350+ pound bear may have been enough to deter most dog owners but all Benham could think of was saving his dog. He ran down, plowed into the bear, tackled it and then started hitting it in the face and eye while also grabbing the bear around the throat.

After the bear left go of his dog, Benham went to the closest vet but it was closed because of a positive case of COVID. He then rushed to Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital and they were ready for him. Benham had to then watch the surgery through a window for over 3 hours while the vets worked to save Buddy’s life.

We are happy to say that Buddy is doing well and recovering from his injuries. The bear, on the other hand, is still out there and continues to come back again and again. In the end, Benham doesn’t regret a thing. He asks, “If it was your kid, what would you do. That’s my kid, I would die for my dog.” See more in this video:
