New Mom Calls America A Joke After Seeing Her Hospital Bill

If you’ve ever spent any about the time in the hospital, you realize that it is not exactly the most pleasant place to be. Even if they try to make it comfortable for you, there’s always the disconnect that you experience because you are not at home.

There is something else about the hospital that makes most of us uncomfortable, and that’s the bill that we get when we leave. It is amazing that we are charged so much for just spending a day or two in the hospital, but that is not the case in all parts of the world.

In the United States, the individual is responsible for having their own healthcare coverage or they will have to pay the entire bill on their own. In other countries, however, health insurance is not really a concern because it is covered under some type of government program.

Perhaps that is why people are shocked when they see the price tag that is on the bill at the end of this day. If they don’t live in the United States, then they may think that the stay should be free but those who live in the United States realize that the price is quite hefty.

Quite simply, if you don’t have insurance coverage, you’re going to be paying a lot out of your pocket over the course of many years for the childbirth. That was recently shared by a new mother on TikTok and she shows just how much she had to pay for her hospital stay.

Shannon Mayer is a new mother that got the bill for the birth of their child. You can see by the look on her face that she is rather disgusted over the bill, and she certainly doesn’t look excited over it.

That is when she shows the price tag and it is over $50,000! As she scans to the left, however, we find out that her responsibility was only $250 because the insurance paid for the rest of it.

This really got the conversation going, with many people wondering how they could possibly afford to give birth to a child. There was even somebody that ask what would happen if you didn’t have insurance and wondered if they would put the baby back in!

Some of the commenters also talked about their hospital bill after their child had to stay in the NICU for a month. It came out to be more than $300,000! They ended up throwing the bill away because they couldn’t afford it.

I guess it really is something to consider but it will continue to be a matter of debate as long as health insurance is a matter of debate.
