If you spend any amount of time watching the evening news, you get used to watching the same people reading one story after another. Some of the stories are designed to make you feel good and others may tell some type of distressing news but in any case, the reporter faithfully gives the news to us on a day by day basis. Even though they are facing some difficult situations in their private life, they do their best to maintain their composure as they read down through the news.
When you really stop to think about everything that the news reporters do, it truly is amazing. Not only do some sit behind a desk and read the news from a prompter, others will stand out in the middle of some of the worst weather in order to report it for us. After that weather has passed, they will then report on the devastation from within the area. Most of us tend to take newscasters for granted, but in the end, they are also people.
As you can imagine, there are times when it can be difficult for a news anchor to control their emotions. They try to maintain a level of professionalism but what a story really hits home, it can be difficult.
That was what was experienced on the set of Atlanta Alive. The news team had just reported on a rather sad story and the camera went back to the news desk. Nobody could’ve imagined what would take place next.
The story took one of the male anchors by surprise. He started to talk about his reaction and his thoughts but soon, his words started to trail off.
His coanchors began to glance at him and their fellow anchors, seeing that he could no longer contain his emotions. That is when they started comforting him as he tried to regain his composure.
When the station went for a commercial break, they came back to talk about the anchors emotional response to the story. The story was of a local care and rehab center, one where elderly residents are being treated with music therapy.
The primary resident in the story was Rosemary Bauer, who is almost ready to turn 100 years old. They play jazz music for her and she absolutely loves it. She says it reminds her of her late husband.
This is a story designed to strike the emotions of those at home but it also touched the TV news anchor as well. When you watch the video below, you will see exactly why he was so touched by this segment.
