Nurse Who Spoke At Republican National Convention Shoots Woman In The Gut And Is Arrested

The August Republican national convention included a nurse from West Virginia as a speaker. She was arrested for shooting a woman after getting in an argument with her, according to reports.

39-year-old Amy Thorn volunteered to work in New York and later San Antonio when the COVID-19 crisis was at its height. Some people may know her as Amy Ford, and she had the opportunity to speak on the opening night of the RNC. Thanks to her efforts to fight the virus, she was even honored at a White House ceremony.

Thorn is the daughter of a coalminer and a nurse. She spoke about policy changes and expanding video visits for healthcare. She also wanted such visits to be covered by Medicare and private insurance policies. In her speech, she said, “Increased access to telehealth for millions of Americans has truly been lifesaving, and we have President Trump to thank.”

The shooting took place in southeastern West Virginia in a little town called Williamson. According to police, Jonda Whitt was shot in the abdomen during an argument by Thorn.

Grady Dotson is the police chief in Williamson, who said that Thorn was fearful because of the altercation and told Whitt she had a gun. They said: “She went to the car and got the gun out of the car.”

After being taken to a local hospital, Whitt was airlifted to Pikesville Medical Center in Pikesville, Kentucky. She underwent surgery, and the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Thorn is saying that the shooting was self-defense. She was charged with malicious wounding and released on a $5000 bond.
