Snapchat says that one of their newest filters, super emotional crying face, was not inspired by the tearful testimony of Amber Heard during the ongoing defamation trial brought by her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
The $50 million trial, which took a brief break, has seen the 36-year-old Aquaman actress take the stand for several days to testify against her ex-husband.
Heard alleges Depp sexually and physically assaulted her during their relationship, which ended in 2016 after only 15 months.
At several points during the riveting testimony, the actress was overcome with emotion, at one point sobbing uncontrollably.
Her crying face has become a popular internet meme, and because of this, many people believe developers released this new filter to mock Heard’s testimony.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the app has since refuted this internet rumor concerning the crying filter.
They told TMZ[2] that the app had been redevelopment for nearly half a year, long before the defamation trial. The social media platform also emphasized that the outlet would never make fun of domestic violence or its victims.
However, many users are not buying it, as the filter gives people almost the exact expression on Heard’s face when she cries.
