One day of my life I will never forget is the day I proposed to my wife. I prepared for months, seeking her daughter’s help picking out the engagement ring. I even bought a book with a wedding proposal in it because my wife is a book lover. I dressed in my very best (seriously, a suit) and when she opened her book, I got down on one ring and proposed with the wedding ring of her dreams. Maybe I’m a little old-fashioned, but it seemed like the perfect proposal to me and she says that same. The great news is that you can have a proposal even without a ring.
However, a ring sort of seals the deal, if you will. Well, the hottest trend in engagement rings is young women are piercing their ring fingers with a diamond instead of wearing a ring. I’m going to be honest here (when am I not?). This looks terrifying and maybe even a little bit dangerous. I guess it’s sort of cool in that I’ve never seen it done before, so it’s definitely creative. However, is it even safe? Yikes! I’m just personally averse to piercings because I’m a chicken. Are young women actually going to be doing this? Is this going to replace traditional engagement rings?
My wife rarely wears her engagement ring. She’s not really a big jewelry person at all and the ring stays in her jewelry box most of the time. In fact, for a wedding band, she got a tiny gold ring because she said that she could get used to that easily. That’s what she wears and I don’t think she ever takes it off. Another creative idea I’ve seen for a wedding ring is a ring tattoo. I kinda like that idea, actually.
One concern I would have is that if you’re doing a task, the ring could get caught on something and rip your finger. This isn’t for me, but hey, whatever works for people.
