When you were a child, did you love to read? If you went to public schools and love books as an adult, there’s a good chance that you were exposed to Highlights for Children in your school’s classroom or library. The magazine called Highlights began publication in June 1946 and was started by a Pennsylvania husband and wife team. They both worked for another children’s publishing company and decided to start their own magazine for children. The tagline for Highlights is “Fun with a Purpose.” The organization now owns several publishing companies and that are committed to making a difference in childhood education and they’re still in publication today.
In every issue of the magazine, there are always tons of heartwarming short stories, wholesome poetry, and plenty of puzzles. Whether a child likes search-a-word puzzles, odd-one-out puzzles, or hidden-object puzzles, Highlights has something they will love. The puzzles are all very stimulating for young minds and a great way to interest children because the human brain is finely tuned to enjoy problems and challenges.
